In contrast to the teaching staff and kindergarten assistants who receive an additional NIS 2,000 - the personal assistants do not receive a salary increase for work at the "holiday school" • Adv. Osnat Ziv, who accompanies the national assistant organization: "This is unlawful discrimination"

Tens of thousands of personal and medical assistants, who are required to work as part of the "Passover school" without extra pay for their work, go out against the local government on the grounds of exploitation, threatening to launch an Italian strike.

As every year, this time too there is a "School of the Holidays" program, which allows for five more school days for kindergarten children and grades 1-3.

Teaching staff and kindergarten assistants, who come to work these days, receive an additional payment on their monthly salary.

However, those affected by the move are medical and integrative (close) medical educators - whose role is to integrate the child into society in general and within the kindergarten - who are obligated to come to work as part of the "summer camp" ("Passover school"), without any additional salary from the local authority. Receive a salary increase of NIS 2,000.

Now they have decided to go to war against the local government.

"On the eve of Passover, and the state treats us like slaves," says Shira (pseudonym), incorporating a municipal kindergarten.

"This is severe discrimination between me and my friends, who work with me in the same kindergarten as general assistants. If they come to work, they will receive an additional NIS 2,000, while I - whether I work or not - will receive the same salary.

"The assistants are vulnerable women, and it is sad to see that we are required to work for free. Some of us are afraid of losing our jobs, and therefore have to agree to this situation."

According to her, some of the education supporters will start an Italian strike: "There are steps that will simply take sick days. After all, if I work or do not work, it is the same payment, so why should I work?"

Adv. Osnat Ziv, director of the hotline at the Itach Maaki organization, which accompanies the national aid organization in the struggle to improve their conditions, wrote a letter to the chairman of the local government center, Haim Bibbs, but has not yet received an answer.

"Beyond the fact that this is unlawful discrimination, compared to other education supporters who are paid for work during the Passover holiday, it is a violation of students' right to equality in education and access to education services."

No response was received from the local government center.
